The financial planning process involves three or more meetings between my clients and myself.
1st Meeting. Our initial meeting is primarily to determine the services you desire and if proceeding with an engagement is appropriate. During this meeting we discuss what motivated you to talk to a financial planner and develop a list of your objectives. I will give you a number of documents for you to take with you and review as follows:
2nd Meeting. This meeting is one of discovery – gathering detailed information about your financial affairs. We review the documents that you have prepared and collected, and further refine your objectives. At this meeting I will also review my Engagement Letter with you and ask you to sign it. I will have modified my standard Letter to reflect the specific services you requested at our first meeting. At this time part of my fee (about one-half) will be due. Should you choose at this time to not proceed, the engagement will be terminated and no fee will be charged.
3rd Meeting. At this meeting I present my recommendations to you, review them with you, and discuss implementation. On review, you may wish to make some modifications to your objectives. In that case, we will proceed with those parts of the plan unaffected by your refinement of your objectives. I will subsequently adjust the affected recommendations, and we will schedule such additional meetings as are necessary to review the impact of your modifications. Again, you may choose to terminate our engagement at this point rather than accepting my recommendations. In that case, I will withdraw my recommendations and no additional fees will be due from you.
